Our toddler summer travel packing list (for 18 months old), is definitely MUCH lighter than our winter packing list for Germany & France (11 months baby).
For our 2 weeks China trip, we brought along 2 big luggages, a stroller and a small backpack. On days when we were flying, we would pack our son’s necessities into the backpack. At the airport, we felt very relaxed while also allowing us to focus on our toddler (who by then loves to run around).
The average September temperature in China was around 32 degrees Celsius. The hottest was in Xi’an when it averaged 36 degrees and Chengdu being the coolest at 27 degrees average.
With this in mind, we packed mainly simple cotton comfortable clothes for our son. We preferred not to put him in onesies as by this stage he wasn’t cooperative when it comes to nappy changes. The only way he would want to lie on his back was when The Wiggles music was turned on. So nappy pants to the rescue! Thus we dressed him each day in tanks/T shirts and shorts for easy changes.
Like most kids, our son prefer the cooler weather. He perspired so much and his cheeks were always red from the heat and humidity. Luckily it did not really affect his mood. He refused to wear socks for the whole of this trip. Instead he preferred to be shoe-less and munching on his toes (Yay to teething!).
By this stage he was no longer breastfeeding and ate normal adult foods. We carried a fair bit of cloth bibs in this trip as he was drooling so much from teething. However when it comes to meal times, we used a silicone bib as it is super easy to wipe clean – and it lasts!
We heard how difficult it was to find a western nappy brand in China so we decided to take 2 weeks worth of nappies and wipes with us. This turned out to be a very good decision. Although they do have Huggies and Pampers nappies, prices were incredibly expensive (as well as all the other imported kids products). Even though nappies take a lot of space in the luggage, they are virtually weightless.
