The thought of leaving our child behind at home while we go traveling ourselves is never a consideration. As working parents, the opportunity to spend 24/7 with our son in a foreign land is an absolute blessing and one that we always look forward to. The joy and hard work of parenting is the same when traveling or back home.

Here are the reasons why we choose to never leave our child behind when traveling:

Travel is the ultimate education

Family travel is a journey into something different, appreciating different perspective and a chance for our son to learn beyond pages of a textbook. We want to raise Berlin to be open minded to different cultures and to be street smart. We want him to encourage his curiosity and inquisitiveness by providing new experiences. These are the things you simply can’t learn from school.

We love growing together through travel

Family travel allows us to form stronger bonds with our son and a great opportunity to become better parents. Family Seeing our son’s personality develops each time we travel is absolutely rewarding. Growing and learning together as a family – what can be more awesome?

We get to practice gratitude

Visiting developing and “less glamorous” countries teaches our son diversity. Whenever we get the opportunity, we love visiting charity organisations.

More interaction with the locals

Since our son was born, we find our travel experience become much more authentic. Berlin would innocently say Hi! to strangers, or walk up to another child and ask to play together. Travel has definitely taught our boy to not be shy. Language is no barrier at all. He easily befriends local kids, and loves meeting new people. He embraces new cultures so easily.

Teach our son to leave his comfort zone & be adaptable

Thanks to travelling, our son has now become now very adaptable and a very good little explorer. From adjusting sleep time, flying long flights, staying in new places and days of discovering new places.

Travel also makes him discover new cuisines. Even though our son loves his Italian food, when we traveled to China, Nepal and Sri Lanka he had no problem eating local food.

Family travel teaches us to be in the moment and be present

Having our son with us, is a constant reminder that family travel should NOT be about taking endless photos for the sake of social media. This is the time for us to be present and connect with him. Never let electronic gadgets interfere family holidays. We always make an effort to stay offline until we come back to the hotel at the end of the day.

Collecting memories not things

The experience of travel itself is the gift. Avoid coming home with lots of shopping but not much memories. Don’t feel pressured to buy souvenirs and more stuff – just because “that’s the expected thing to do when travelling”.

Traveling teaches him the world is exciting and full of surprises

Whenever we are at a new place, our son gets so immersed in his new surroundings and his imagination just run free.

As parents we decide not to shelter our son from the real world. To not assume the world they know is the only one that exists. We believe children are too precious to be kept indoors all the time.
